WCB Scholarship 2018 Application requirements
In 2018, The Washington Council of the Blind (WCB) plans to award scholarships to legally blind residents of Washington state who are attending a college or university, or vocational/technical school. In 2017, WCB awarded nine scholarships in amounts from $1,000 to $4,000.
First consideration will be given to applicants who have not previously received a WCB scholarship. However, all legally blind Washington state residents enrolled in an academic or vocational training program for the 2018-2019 academic year are encouraged to apply.
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements below:
1. The applicant must provide certification that he or she is legally blind in both eyes. Legal blindness means a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in both eyes with correction, or a visual field of 20 degrees or less in both eyes with correction.
2. The applicant must provide proof of acceptance for enrollment in an accredited vocational school, college or university located in the United States for the Fall quarter or semester. The applicant may explain the circumstances if enrollment is not finalized at the time of application.
3. The applicant must be a resident of Washington State who has physically resided in the State of Washington for twelve (12) consecutive months at the time of application.
Applicants must complete a WCB Scholarship Application which must be received by 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2018. All fields must be completed and supporting documents must be submitted for an application to be considered. Enter “NA” in any field that does not apply to you. Additionally, please submit by email two letters of reference and a personal essay about yourself. When submitting supporting documents by e-mail, please clearly identify the type of supporting document in the email subject (e.g. John Jones, personal essay.)

Applications will be reviewed by the WCB Scholarship Committee. A recorded Telephone interview will then be conducted with each candidate in August 2018. All applicants will be advised of the results by September 30, 2018.
Scholarships will be presented on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the annual WCB Convention to be held in SeaTac, Washington. Recipients will be our guests at the scholarship reception and Banquet and are encouraged to attend the entire convention.
